Officio Birthday Star : Jennifer Rush

 


The legendary Jennifer Rush (born Heidi Stern), born September 28, 1960, is an American pop and rock singer, who garnered musical success in the mid-80s with her singles and albums including the commercially successful "The Power of Love" (1984). Her debut album, Jennifer Rush was released March 2, 1984, via CBS Records International. The album peaked at No.7 in the UK and spawned her signature song, "The Power of Love" which went on peak at number one in the UK, Australia, Canada, Ireland, Norway, among others. It was the best selling single in the UK in 1985, topping the year end chart. The song would later be covered by Canadian pop singer Celine Dion, whose version went to number-one in the US, marking Dion's first. It was subsequently covered by the band Air Supply in 1985, and by Laura Branigan in 1987, her version reached No.26 on the Hot 100 chart. It is still one of the best selling singles ever. 

   Her second album, Movin' (1985), and became a successful release in Europe: Germany, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland, where it peaked at number one, while reaching #32 in the UK, and delivering the singles "Destiny" and "If You're Ever Gonna Lose My Love". Her third album, Heart over Mind, was released in 1987, vis CBS Records and peaked at #9 in Australia, No.7 in Finland, No.1 Germany and Switzerland, #6 in Norway, #4 in Sweden and peaking at #48 in the UK. It spawned the singles "I Come Undone", "Flames of Paradise" and "Heart Over Mind". 

   Her fourth album, Passion, was released in 1988 with the lead single "You're My One and Only". The follow-up, Wings of Desire, was out in 1989, featuring the singles "Higher Ground" and the titular track. Her sixth album, also self-titled Jennifer Rush was released 30 October 1992 via EMI Records, which included a cover version of Belinda Carlisle's "Vision of You".

   Out of My Hands, her 7th album was out February 9, 1995, with the singles "Tears in the Rain" and "Out of My Hands" as well as a cover of Queen's "Who Wants to Live Forever". Credo followed in 1997 with most songs on the album being cover versions except for two original tracks. Classics was released in 1998, containing reworking of her earlier popular songs as well as four new songs. In 2010, her 10th studio album, Now Is the Hour was released  via Ariola Records, marking her first album since 1998.
