Doja Cat Paints the UK Official Singles Chart Red with her first UK number-one "Paint the Town Red" and leads the Billboard Hot 100

American rapper/singer Doja Cat rose to the top of the UK Singles Chart as "Paint the Town Red" got to finish its climb on the record chart dethroning fellow singer Olivia Rodrigo's "vampire" for the week 8 September 2023 - 14 September 2023, marking the singer's best rank thus far. Doja Cat's Town (with 5 weeks in) stands in the way of Taylor Swift's "Cruel Summer" which stands at the runner-up post with 13 weeks on the run. The single has been a number-one success in areas as Australia, Canada, Czech Republic, Ireland, Lithuania, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Slovakia and Switzerland and currently peaking at No.3 in the US. The track managed to stay afloat the UK Singles list the week after (15 September 2023 - 21 September 2023), spending a second week at number-one ahead of Olivia's "vampire".

The track was released on Aug. 4, 2023 via Kemosabe / RCA Records, off the rapper's fourth studio album, Scarlet, due for release on September 22, 2023. Notably the song samples Dion Warwick's 1963 hit "Walk on By", composed by Burt Bacharach, with lyrics by Hal David and having reached the No.6 position on the Hot 100 list.

In its fifth week, the song reached the peak of the Billboard Hot 100, marking the rapper/singer's second number one entry therein after 2020's "Say So" (Remix) (featuring Nicki Minaj), and her first leader as a solo act. In topping the chart, Doja Cat ended a year-long streak absence of rap songs at the helm, following Nicki Minaj's "Super Freaky Girl", considering the long run of country hits at the top including Morgan Wallen's "Last Night" which has thus far reigned for 16 non-consecutive weeks, Jason Aldean's "Try That In A Small Town" (one week leader), Oliver Anthony's "Rich Men North of Richmond" (two-week leader) and the #1 debut of Zach Bryan & Kacey Musgrave's "I Remember Everything" (one-week).
