Song Preview: Hold My Hand (Jess Glynne)
Released, March 20, 2015, the dance-pop hit "Hold My Hand" was delivered by English singer/songwriter Jess Glynne, through Warner & Atlantic Records, off her debut studio album, I Cry When I Laugh. The song marked her third solo single. It was written by Janee Bennett Jessica Glynne, Jack Patterson as well as Ina Wroldsen. It was produced by British producer, Starsmith.
The song made its debut at number-one on the UK Singles Chart (the week 29 March 2015 - 4 April 2015), keeping James Bay's "Hold Back the River" from the top spot, while marking Glynne's first solo number-one on the record chart, and her third in total. It stayed at number-one for three weeks consecutively, in its second week, it held off Ed Sheeran's "Bloodstream" (with Rudimental). In its final run at the top spot, it held off Nick Jonas' No.2 debut "Jealous", only to be replaced by Wiz Khalifa & Charlie Puth's "See You Again". The track went to number one in Scotland and No.7 in Ireland, while peaking at #86 on the Billboard Hot 100 (her first solo entry therein). In the UK it was ranked at #14 at the year-end chart in 2015. The song peaked atop the Euro Digital Song Sales (Billboard) as well in Israel. It would later be featured on the original soundtrack of the 2016 film Bridget Jones's Baby.
At the 2015 BBC Music Awards, it was nominated for Song of the Year, however the accolade was awarded to Hozier's "Take Me to Church".
