  U2 released this masterpiece rock song on 9 October 2000, via Island Records & Interscope Records, as the first track off their tenth studio album, All That You Can't Leave Behind. As a lead single, the song was a commercial success, marking one the band's biggest hits to date. 

  The song reached number-one in Australia, Canada, Finland, Ireland (the band's native), Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Scotland, Spain and the United Kingdom, while peaking at No.21 in the US, although it topped the equivalent US Adult Alternative Songs (Billboard) for a record 16 weeks. The album was subsequently awarded three Grammy Awards in 2001 for Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. 

   The parent album was released 30 October, 2000, peaking atop the album charts in Australia, Canada, Austria, Belgium, Finland, Denmark, Ireland, New Zealand, Italy, Germany, France, Norway, Portugal, Scotland, Sweden and the United Kingdom while peaking at No.3 in the United States.
