Best Albums of May 2020

 


1. Chromatica : Lady Gaga's sixth studio album was released May 29 via Interscope Records after a delay. The record debuted at No.1 in the US, earning the singer her 6th consecutive topper there, while still still topping charts in Australia, France, Canada, Ireland, Scotland as well as the UK. It spawned the internationally acclaimed single "Rain on Me" (feat. Ariana Grande), which made a No.1 debut on the US Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles chart, while reaching No.2 in Australia. The prior single, "Stupid Love" was a No.5 success both in the US and the UK. 

2.  Golden Hour : It's hard to talk about 2020's EDM and leave Kygo's third studio album, released May 29, via Sony Music. The set debuted at No.9 on the Australian Albums Chart, No.2 in Canada, No.6 in the UK, No.7 in Ireland, No.1 in Norway, No.5 in Sweden, and No.18 on the Billboard 200 chart while hitting No.2 on the equivalent US Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart. It features the Officio 100 number-one single "Lose Somebody" (with OneRepublic). It also features more 7 tracks that reached the Officio 100 top-ten area. 

3. WUNNA : Gunna's  sophomore album, released May 22, proved the artistic vibe the rapper holds as the set debuted atop the Billboard 200 charts, earning him his first topper in the US. It debuted at #5 in the UK and No.1 in Canada. It produced the Officio 100 #1 "Skybox" and the No.2 peaking single "Wunna". 

4.  The Goat : Rapper Polo G's sophomore studio effort arrived on May 15 via Columbia Records, debuting at No.2 on the US Billboard 200 list, marking his best rank on the list, besting his debut. In the UK, it was a No.6 success while reaching No.10 in Australia, No.5 in Ireland and No.2 in Canada. It features the Officio 100 No.10 reaching track "DND". 

5.  Good Intentions : Canadian rapper, Nav, delivered his third studio effort on May 8 via XO Records and Republic Records. The set was successful as it debuted at No.1 on the US Billboard 200 charts, marking his second effort. In his home country, it debuted atop the albums chart, becoming his second album to reach the top spot. The set offered the Officio 100 top-10 entries, "Turks" (with Gunna & Travis Scott) (No.7) and "Codeine" (with Gunna) (No.8). 

6.  Wild World : The fourth studio set by American country singer, Kip Moore, it was released on May 24, via Universal Music Group Nashville. Commercially, it ranked at No. 5 on the US Top Country Albums, No.4 in Australia, and No.2 on the UK Country Albums

7.  High Off Life : American rapper, Future, delivered his eighth studio set on May 15th via his label Freebandz and Epic Records. It became his seventh consecutive album to top the US Billboard 200 charts, when it debuted at No.1 thereon. It featured the US Billboard Hot 100 No.2 peaking single "Life is Good" (with Drake). It debuted at No.5 in the UK, marking the rapper's highest charting record in the country, while scoring a No.1 seat in Canada. 

8.  Just Cause Y'all Waited 2 : The fifth studio album by rapper Lil Durk, was released May 8 and debuted at No.5 in the US, however following a deluxe release, the set managed to reach a No.2 peak, marking Durk's best ranking album so far, and second top-5 album. It peaked at No.20 in Canada and #32 in the UK. It features the Officio 100 top-10 track "3 Headed Goat" (feat. Lil Baby & Polo G). 

9.  Here and Now : Kenny Chesney's 19th studio effort arrived on May 1, and debuted at No.1 on the Billboard 200 chart, while marking the country singer's 16th overall top-10 album on the list. It peaked at No.2 in Canada, while producing the Officio 100 No.6 peaking track "Tip of My Tongue". Additionally, it peaked at No.1 on the US Top Country Albums list. 

10.  Dark Lane Demo Tapes : A mixtape by Canadian rapper, Drake, was out May 1, via OVO Records and Republic Records, and it debuted at No.2 on the US Billboard 200 chart, just behind Kenny Chesney's entry and No.1 in the UK, marking his third topper there, while topping charts in Australia, Canada and Ireland, among other territories. it spawned the US Hot 100 number-one debut single "Toosie Slide". 

11.  It Was Good Until It Wasn't : The sophomore album from American singer, Kehlani, arrived May 8 via Atlantic Records, and it proved her best rank on the US Billboard 200 charts where it debuted at No.2. In Canada, the album was a No.4 success while reaching No.10 in UK and #17 in Australia. 

12.  Slime & B : Chris Brown and Young Thug came through with their collaborative mixtape released on May 5 via YSL Records, Atlantic and RCA Records. Peaking at No.24 on the US Billboard 200 chart, the set features the US top-ten single and Officio 100 No.3 hit "Go Crazy".

13.  Lil Boat 3 : Lil Yachty's 4th studio set was released May 29 via Quality Control and Capitol Records, and debuted at No.14 in the US while featuring the Officio 100 No.4 single "Oprah's Bank Account" (with Drake & DaBaby). 

14.  Dedicated - Side B : Canadian songstress, Carly Rae Jepsen, gave us an extension of her 2019's Dedicated album (her fourth) released as a compilation on May 21. The dance pop record peaked at No.8 in Scotland, and features the non-charting but awesome track "Comeback" (feat. Bleachers). 

15.  Dissimulation : British You Tuber and rapper, KSI, delivered his debut studio album on May 22 and it debuted at No.2 on the UK Albums Chart and has been ranked the highest-selling debut album in 2020 in the UK. it topped the Irish Albums Chart, peaked at No.4 in Australia, and No.2 in Scotland. 

16.  Emmanuel : The sophomore album by Puerto-Rican singer, Anuel AA, it was released May 29, and debuted at No.8 in the US, while topping the US Top Latin Albums chart and hitting No.1 in Spain. 

17.  State of Emergency : Released May 8, this Lil Tjay project featuring 7 tracks arrived at a time after the rapper's 19th birthday and a time when New York's environment was in a state of emergency following the Covid-19 impact around the country in general. The track "Zoo York" (feat. Fivio Foreign & Pop Smoke) was reached No.4 on our Officio 100 list. 

18.  Good to Know : JoJo finally came through with her fourth studio album, released May 1, and managed to peak at No.33 in the US.  

19. The London Sessions :  Dutch DJ and producer, Tiesto, delivered his 6th studio effort on May 15 and the EDM record was incredible reaching No.10 on the US Top Dance/Electronic Albums list and No.12 on the UK Dance Albums chart. 

20.  Notes on a Conditional Form : English rock band, The 1975, released their fourth studio effort on May 22, and it topped the UK Albums Chart, marking their fourth consecutive No.1 record on the chart, while reaching No.1 in Australia and Scotland, No.2 in Ireland  and No.4 in the US.

  •  Petals for Armor : Paramore's front-woman, Hayley Williams, saw her debut effort, see the light of day, released May 8 via Atlantic Records. The set debuted at No.1 in Scotland, No.4 in the UK, No.6 in Australia, and No.18 in the US.

  • Self Preservation : Ace Hood, released  May 1 via Hood Nation and EMPIRE. 
  •  Red Flu : Young M.A - released May 22. 
  •  how i'm feeling now : Charli XCX 's 4th studio album released May 15 via Asylum Records - debuted at No.8 in Scotland, and No.33 in the UK. 
  •  The End of Everything (EP) : Noah Cyrus - released May 15 via Columbia Records. 
  •  Son of a Gun : Key Glock - released May 21. 
  •  These Two Windows : Alec Benjamin's debut album released May 29 via Warner Music, reaching No.15 in Scotland.  
  •  Polaris (EP) : Aitch - released May 29.
