Singer-Songwriter Sam Fender Adds U.K. No. 1 Album Debut to 2019 BRIT Award
Sam Fender, the north of England singer-songwriter who won the BRIT Awards Critics' Choice Award for 2019, debuts at No. 1 on the U.K. album chart with his debut release Hypersonic Missiles (Polydor/Universal).
Fender's album has first-week combined units of 41,000, according to the Official Charts Company. Of that, over 8,000 were on vinyl, so Hypersonic Missiles becomes the fastest-selling vinyl album of the year to date. He follows Tom Walker, Mercury Prize winner Dave, Billie Eilish and Lewis Capaldi among debut albums to top the U.K. chart this year.
Last week's No. 1, Post Malone's Hollywood's Bleeding (Republic/Universal), falls one place, as Sheeran's No. 6 Collaborations Project dips 2-3. Capaldi's Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent (EMI/Universal) rebounds 5-4, changing places with Taylor Swift's Lover, also on EMI.
There are four more top debutants on the new album chart. Emeli Sandé's Real Life, yet another EMI release, is new at No. 6, while the Pixies start at No. 7 with Beneath The Eyrie (Infectious Music). The Lumineers' III (Decca/Universal) enters at No. 8 and Korn at No. 9 with The Nothing (Roadrunner), their highest ranking since Untouchables in 2002.
