Album: Witness (Katy Perry)

 

  Katy Perry's fifth studio album, Witness, was released June 9, 2017 via Capitol Records, a follow up to her smash hit records, Prism (2013) and Teenage Dream (2010). 

Witness saw production from Max Martin, Ali Payami, Shellback, Jeff Bhasker, Duke Dumont, Ilya, among other prolific producers. 

Debuting atop the Billboard 200 chart, the album marked Perry's third number one record in the US, selling 180,000 equivalent units, first week. However, this was a low figure compared to her previous #1 chart efforts, Prism had 286,000 first week figures, while Teenage Dream earned 192,000 units. In Australia, the album entered at No.2 (the highest debut of that week) where it peaked, kept from the top by Ed Sheeran's ÷ [Divide]. In Canada, it went to No.1 becoming her third topper in the country. Elsewhere the album reached No.5 on the Irish Albums, No.2 on the New Zealand chart, No.7 in Scotland, and No.6 on the UK Albums chart. 

Singles: 

"Chained to the Rhythm" - The first single off the album reached No.4 on the ARIA chart, No.3 on the Canadian Hot 100, No.4 in Brazil, No.10 in Denmark, No.6 in Germany and Ireland, No.8 in New Zealand and Norway, No.3 in Scotland, No.1 in Poland, No.5 in the UK and No.4 on the Hot 100, while topping the US Dance Club Songs listing. It received the BMI Award Winning song in 2018 and was nominated for three MTV VMA's in 2017 for Best Pop Video, Best Direction and Best Visual Effects. Perry co-wrote the song with Sia, Max Martin, Ali Payami and Skip Marley (also featured on the track). 

"Bon Appétit" (with Migos) - the trap-pop disco tune marked a first collaboration for the pair, although it lacked the commercial success it was hoped to have had, reaching No.35 in Australia, No.59 in the US and No.37 on the UK Singles listing, while peaking at #12 in Canada. 

"Swish Swish" (with Nicki Minaj) - the album's third single, reached #22 on the ARIA chart, #13 in Canada, #19 in the UK and #46 on the Hot 100. It topped the US Dance Club Songs chart. 

"Save as Draft" - peaked at No.14 on the US Adult Contemporary list and #19 on the US Adult Pop Airplay.
